Hugs in Karne Shomron

(If you are a returning visitor to this page, you can skip the following introduction and click on the links following it to get the latest updates.)

Located in the western Samaria, the name Karne Shomron means “the Horns of Samaria.” It is a beautiful town. According the 2004 census stats, its population was listed as 6, 200. The local council comprises the areas of Ginot Shomron, Karnei Shomron, Neve Menachem, Alonei Shilo, and Mitzpe Tzvaim.

On February 15, 2002, a Palestinian suicide bomber detonated his explosives among a group of teenagers gathered at a local pizzeria in the town mall, killing 3 teenagers and seriously wounding many others.

Working together with the Israeli Director of Christian Friends of Israeli Communities headquartered in Ginot Shomron, Hugs for Israel made a donation of one of the bounce castles to the town. There are 12 kindergartens spread over the area. The Director over all the kindergartens told us that they would rotate the bounce castle among the 12 everyday so that all the children would be able to enjoy it. Needless to say, we absolutely loved this approach. The day that we set it up in November 2005 was a gorgeous day…just perfect for outside play. The children had so much fun jumping and laughing and screaming that it was simply contagious!
