Bundles of Hugs
In the hours and days immediately following a terrorist attack, when the child's world has just been turned upside down and the unimaginable has happened, of course it is expected that family and friends will rush to the hospital and bring flowers, gifts and well-wishes. But what an extraordinary and unforgettable impact to have perfect strangers show up at their bedside. Strangers who don't come empty-handed but who come bearing tangible expressions of the Father's Love for them personally. It then becomes a witness not only to the child, but to the entire family and the friends who come to visit, as well as to the hospital staff.
As we shop for the variety of items to be included in these baskets, we do so prayerfully, trusting that the LORD will lead us to just what needs to go into each one. Among the many items that we try to include with the baskets are PLUSH and CUDDLY teddy bears of the highest quality. The kind that a child would want to snuggle up close to. The kind that by the time they leave the hospital, they would have left with a new little friend that will serve as a constant reminder to them of being loved. Eventually, we hope to have the Hugs logo manufactured and attached to each teddy bear along with the paraphrase of scripture from Psalm 56:3,4
■ Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in the LORD.■
Thanks to the ESM (Extra Suitcase Ministry) for an extra specail treat, many times we are also able to include items that are not found here in Israel.
For those children for whom our first visit is in the home, we still do not go empty-handed. We take an assortment of toys (puzzles, balls, jumping ropes, games, etc.) and other treats for them to enjoy. Some families have even requested food. Whatever our bags are full of, we want them to experience a taste of the lavishness of the LORD'S Awesome Love for them.
The average cost of one basket is only $35.
Won't you help us to bring Bundles of Hugs by sponsoring at least one or more baskets?
Furthermore, if you or your tour group are planning a visit to Israel from the United States, keep in mind that EACH person is allowed to ship two pieces of luggage at 50 lbs each piece. Please consider bringing NEW toys (not "used" PLEASE) for these Hugs kids in one of the suitcases or boxes. Contact us for more information on items most needed as well as the procedures that need to be followed.
